Visit Pompeii and Vesuvius with our full day shore excursion from Sorrento, and have lunch in a typical winery while admiring the vineyards on the slopes of Mt Vesuvius. The driver will pick you up on time from Sorrento's port. Just sit back, relax and enjoy this trip between history, landscapes, wine and local food. You will get back in time to embark on your ship. Tour layout may vary due to traffic or special events on the specific day.

Please note: On the first Sunday of each month, admission to Pompeii ruins is free and we can't reserve tickets in advance. They have to be bought on the spot and there will probably be a long line and there is also the possibility that tickets may sell out. In that case you'll be able to visit Herculaneum that normally is less crowded.

Journey Plan

The tour will start from Sorrento's port, as it's a private shore trip the driver will wait for you at the wharf, precisely at "Bar Ruccio" holding a sign with your surname on it. You will travel with an air-conditioned luxury sedan car or minivan driven by a professional English speaking local driver that will introduce you to the history and main sights that you will be seeing during your trip.

After a panoramic ride on the Sorrentine coastline and a short stretch on the highway your first stop will be Mt. Vesuvius The driver will take you up to about 1000 meters – 3280 feet from where you can decide if you would like to continue until the very top by foot with a local ranger guide (guided hike at own expense).  At the peak of the volcano you can walk near the crater and take breathtaking pictures. Along the road with your driver, to reach the meeting point with the ranger, there are also other panoramic stops.

As you descend from Mt. Vesuvius, there will be the stop for lunch in a winery. You will proceed to visit an enchanting property found on the slopes of the volcano. A short walk through the vineyards will be followed by a delicious meal made with typical local products found in the region and a taste of the wines produced in the area.

After this delicious stop, you will proceed for Pompeii. Here you will have about 2 hours to visit the ancient city of Pompeii, here you will have 2 hours to visit the UNESCO-listed ruins. Buried under the pumice and ash of Mt Vesuvius’ 79 AD eruption, the once-thriving city remained preserved under the rubble. Today, it offers a fascinating look into ancient Roman life (entrance ticket at own expense). We suggest you book an expert guide in Pompeii to better understand the importance of this archaeological site, the most important in the World! Guide is not included, the cost is 160 Euro for 2 hours.

The day trip will end in late afternoon by driving you back to Sorrento's port, in time to get back on your cruise, on the road you can admire other great view of Sorrento's coast
